Dr Yong Ren graduated from the Medical Faculty of the National University of Singapore in 2005. He developed a keen interest in Orthopaedic Surgery from his time in medical school and wasted no time in embarking on his chosen field. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgical training in 2014, and began his career as a full-fledged Orthopaedic Surgeon in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. That same year, he was awarded the Ministry of Health, Health Manpower Development Plan Fellowship. He spent his fellowship year away in snowy Switzerland, where he was trained in advanced spinal surgery and pelvic trauma surgery. Having completed his training in Switzerland he returned to serve as the Head of Orthopaedic Trauma at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, a position he held until 2019.
Dr Yong is very active in teaching of both undergraduates and orthopaedic residents. He was appointed as Adjunct Assistant Professor by the National University of Singapore in 2018, and has been heavily involved in undergraduate teaching since 2014. He was appointed core orthopaedic faculty by the National Healthcare Group Orthopaedic Residency Program in 2014, and has coached multiple batches of residents. He is active in international trauma scene, having been involved in the AO Trauma Asia Pacific, Singapore Council since 2014, first as a hospital representative, and currently as the Singapore Council’s Community Development Officer.
Dr Yong Ren is a well versed in a range of general Orthopaedic procedures, as well as minimally invasive procedures and trauma surgery. He has a particular focus on treating traumatic injuries of both the upper and lower limbs.
